Francis C. Sweet, 90, of Girard, Kansas, passed away at 3:40 A.M. Tuesday in the Sunset Manor of Frontenac.

Francis was born October 25, 1920 in Girard, a son of Franklin and Mabel (Morton) Sweet. Francis attended Girard Schools and graduated from Girard High School. After High School Francis served in the United States Navy; Francis Served aboard the USS Tennessee and was a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

In 1951 Francis married Emma Wikle; they later divorced. Francis farmed most of his life throughout the Girard area until retirement.

Survivors include sons Art Sweet of Springhill, Kansas and Chet Sweet of Girard, Kansas; a daughter, Jeanne Proffitt of Emerald Beach, Missouri; three grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.

Francis is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bill Sweet; two sisters; Esther Bennefeld and Myrtle Smith.

A visitation will be held Friday, June 24, 2011 from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home of Girard where friends may call after 10:00 A.m. Friday.
