Dear editor,
Something we all hear this time of year, “there’s nothing to do” we’ll if you are reading this, then let me prove you wrong!
As the summer draws to a close and kids are getting ready to go back to school, there’s a 92-year tradition, that can bring your family out of boredom. I would encourage you to join us for the Best Year Yet at the Crawford County Fair.
From July 30 through August 2, there is plenty of activities right in your backyard. With close to $4 a gallon gas, plan a stay-cation this year. Staying closer to home and spending money in the area not only boosts the local economy, but helps support our youth projects and our fair facilities.
The fair kicks-off on Wednesday with the judging of many of the open class and 4-H entries and the ACRA/IPRA rodeo. Pittsburg’s Area 51 will be playing in the FREE Music on the Midway Concert Series. Southern States will provide a carnival for all to enjoy.
Thursday is another night of rodeo action including Bull Poker. On Thursday, Duke Mason will be on the free stage. Friday will feature Diversity on stage and will also be the Second Annual Tuff Trucks figure 8 competition. See the Tuff Trucks make jumps and compete for the best times in the Bill Peak Arena.
Saturday is the culmination of the fair. We encourage buyers to come out and support the 4-H Livestock Sale. After the sale, take in the demolition derby and stay to hear the Rich McCready Band perform our final free Music on the Midway concert.
Many area businesses have stepped up to sponsor local events. So who says there’s nothing to do? This year’s Crawford County Fair offers an attractive alternative to traveling this summer … there’s even an air-conditioned exhibit building to cool-off from the summer heat.
So come out and take in the activities at the 92nd Crawford County Fair, just east of Girard on Kansas Highway 47, you won’t be sorry!
