Two juveniles have been arresed and a third is being sought after police caught them in the act of stealing from Pittsburg cars.

About 2:20 a.m. Thursday, the Pittsburg police responded to the area of 8th and Highland streets on a report of three suspicious males in the area. Officers found two cars in a driveway in the 1200 block of E. 9th St. that had dome lights on. Officers contacted the car’s owner and learned it had been unlocked and that items were missing from one of the cars.

The police then found three juvenile males walking near Fairview and 6th Street and attempted to make contact.

One of the three ran and was never found. Contact was made with the other two, and officers soon found multiple items in a ditch nearby that could have been stolen property.

One of the items found in the ditch matched an item missing from the vehicle in the 1200 block of E. 9th St.

Officers then arrested the two juvenile males for burglary and theft to a motor vehicle.

Later Thursday morning, at about 6:20 a.m., the police received a report of a theft from a vehicle at the 1300 block of E. 10th St. One of the items reported stolen is believed to be an item found when the males were arrested.

The third male juvenile has not been found at this time. The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information related to the crime may report it anonymously to 231-1700.
