Girard forensics kicked off the season with a strong start, qualifying eight students for state in seven different events in the first two tournaments.

Girard forensics kicked off the season with a strong start, qualifying eight students for state in seven different events in the first two tournaments.

The GHS forensics team competed at Colgan Jan. 28 where 12 students made it into finals and six qualified for state.

State qualifiers include Carley Bradshaw and Breanna Hyman, first place, Duet Acting; Jarred Mellish, second place, Dramatic Interpretation; Jessy Hardwick, first place, Poetry; Trisha Roberts, second place, Prose; and Breanna Hyman, second place, Oration.

In addition to qualifying for state, the GHS forensics team placed second overall in sweepstakes.    The team also competed at Independence Feb. 4 and Marmaton Valley on Feb. 11 where eight students made it into finals and five qualified for state.

State qualifiers include McKenna Belcher, first place, Informative Speaking; Jarred Mellish, second place, Dramatic Interpretation; Krista Jarboe and Amanda Longpine, second place, Duet Acting; and Trisha Elder, third place, Prose.

Regarding the team’s recent success, Coach Terry Wunder said, “Those who have succeeded prove, once again, that hard work matters. In order for others to succeed, they must acquire the same work ethic.”
