  • Three people have died this week in three separate accidents on U.S. 69 in Bourbon County.
    The most recent incident occurred shortly after 5 a.m. on Wednesday. Travis Morrison, 23, of Overland Park was killed when the 2002 Acura four-door passenger car he was driving southbound crossed the center line and hit a semi truck head-on. The driver of the truck was uninjured. The accident occurred seven miles south of Fort Scott.
    At around 10 p.m. Tuesday, Roger Sickels, 47, of Mapleton was hit by a 1998 Toyota Truck, driven by 21-year-old Brandon Davis of Fort Scott, while walking northbound in the southbound lanes and trying to flag down a vehicle. The incident occurred on U.S. 69 at Ironwood Road, south of Fort Scott.
    Shortly before 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Robert J. Lyons, 82, of Fort Scott was killed while trying to drive eastbound across U.S. 69 after leaving Advantage Recycling Yard, just south of Mercy Hospital in Fort Scott. Lyons’ 1991 Nissan truck was hit while crossing the highway by a 1997 Mercury passenger car driven by 52-year-old Kenneth Lee Vandorn of Pittsburg. Vandorn was not injured in the crash.
