A rural Labette County construction worker is dead after an accident southwest of Edna on Wednesday.


According to the Labette County Sheriff's Department, Chad D. Johnson, 43 of Edna, was found dead after a 500-pound roll of plastic pipe had fell over and trapped him.


He was pronouced dead at the scene by the deputy Labette County coroner.


The pipe was used for underground delivery of natural gas. Johnson was an employee of BRB Construction Company of Edna and was cutting the plastic bindings holding the pipe together when it tipped over.


Labette County Sheriff William Blundell said that Johnson's body has been transported to Topeka for autopsy. Representatives from OSHA are expected to be on the scene later today to conduct an investigation into the incident.
