Despite outshooting Thomas Jefferson, the Pittsburg High School soccer team fell 5-1 at Joplin, Mo. Thursday afternoon.
The Dragons got an early goal from Jacob Spencer in the 15th minute of the first half to tie the game 1-1.
Pittsburg outshot Thomas Jefferson 20-10 in the game.
“Most of our shots came in the second half when we were trying to fight back from a 4-1 deficit,” said PHS head coach Wraine Meadows.
But, the Dragons could not overcome a slow start in the loss.
“We just came out very flat with no energy and never seemed to get things on track,” Meadows said.
Pittsburg had two key injuries — David Garcia and Ashley Lewandowski — that hampered the Dragons on Thursday.
“We still should have come out with a lot more energy and a lot more fire,” Meadows said. “We didn’t have any hustle or fight for 50/50 balls.”
The Dragons get back on the road at 4:30 p.m. at Independence.
