Paul S. Hill, 88, of Pittsburg, passed away at 2:53 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg.

Paul S. Hill, 88, of Pittsburg, passed away at 2:53 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg.

He was born August 8, 1923 near Eureka, Kansas to Arthur Eugene and Martha Ann (Gray) Hill. He graduated from the University of Kansas in 1950.

He served in the United States Army Air Corp from 1943 to 1946.

On September 30, 1949, he was united in marriage to Mary Kay Kottmann at Bentonville, Arkansas.

Mr. Hill was in a Partnership in a Farming Venture from 1950 to 1952. He then was the Kansas Manager for National Equity Life Insurance Company from 1952 to 1954. From 1954 to 1955, he was a loan officer for Capital Federal Savings and Loan Association of Topeka.  In 1955, he became the Assistant Secretary of Interstate Federal Savings and Loan Association in Kansas City, Kansas. From 1958 to 1966, he was the Executive Vice President and Director of Lyons Savings and Loan Association in Lyons, KS. In 1966, he moved to Pittsburg where he became the President and Director of First Federal Savings and Loan Associations until 1982. He was also the President and Director of First Mortgage Service Corporation (a wholly owned subsidiary Corporation) from 1971 – 1982. In 1982, he served as a Chairman of the Board for First Federal Savings and Loan Association.

He was a member and Past President of Savings and Loan Junior Executives from 1959 – 1960, Member of Board of Directors of Kansas Savings and Loan League 1960-1961 and 1967-1969, Board of Directors of Southwest Savings Conference 1961-1963, Board of Directors of Midwest Savings Conference 1962-1964, Savings and Loan Board of Kansas 1960-1964, 1967-1975, and 1979-1988, where he served as Chairman from 1963-1964, President of Midwest Savings Conference 1970-1971, President of Kansas Savings and Loan League 1973-1974, Member of Board of Directors of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka for four years 1975-1978, where he was Vice Chairman in 1978, Member of Advisory Council of the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation, Washington D.C. for three years 1978-1980, Member of Board of Trustees of Financial Institutions Retirement Fund, White Plains, NY 1984-1985,  Member of the Legislative Committee of the Kansas Savings and Loan League 1968-1986, and Member of the Political Action Committee of the Kansas Savings and Loan League 1970-1990. He was a member of the Crestwood Country Club, former member of the Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce, where he was a past president from 1969 to 1970 and the United Way.

Mr. Hill served as secretary of Lyons Community Chest 1958-1960, Director of Lyons Chamber of Commerce 1960-1963, President of Lyons Country Club, Lyons Industrial Development Corporation, Lyons Rotary Club. He was the Vice Chairman Lyons Planning Commission for five years, Member of the Board of Directors of Kansas State Chamber of Commerce 1963 to 1966, where he served as District Vice President from 1965-1966, Member of Lyons School Board from 1964 to 1966, Member of Pittsburg Human Relations Commission from 1969 to 1970, and Chairman of Advanced Gifts Section of United Fund of Pittsburg in 1972, 1980 and 1981.
Membership was held in the First United Methodist Church of Pittsburg and Crestwood Country Club. He and his wife loved to play golf and traveled around the United States, England, Scotland, and Ireland playing golf. He played in several Pro-Am Golf Tournaments around the country. Mr. Hill also had a private pilot license and enjoyed flying.

In addition to his wife, Mary Kay Hill of the home, he is survived by a son, Stephen Hill and his wife, Jennifer Lu of Overland Park, KS; three daughters, Candyse Taylor and her husband, Montie of rural Parsons, KS, Judy Eicher and her husband, Bob of Cheyenne, WY, and Sherrie Bellamy and her husband, David of Overland Park, KS; a brother, J.D. Hill and his wife, Patricia of Davis, OK; a sister, Frances Agassiz  of Bellevue, WA; seven grandchildren, Michelle Eicher, Jennifer Hewett, Julie Taylor, Mary “Katie” Bellamy, Haley Hill, and Spencer Hill; and 2 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Maurice Hill.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Brenner Mortuary with clergy Jim Aikens officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service at the Brenner Mortuary.
