Grant reception

M&I Wealth Management will host a reception at 3 p.m. to announce the Leon V. and Dorothy M. Skubitz Foundation 2011 grant recipient.

Mr. and Mrs. Skubitz, longtime Pittsburg residents, left their estate in trust with M&I Wealth Management to create a foundation that would award annual grant(s). These grants are to be used exclusively for charitable purposes, selected by the trustee, that benefit southeast Kansas residents, with strong, if not exclusive, preference given to charitable purposes that benefit residents of Crawford County.

M&I Wealth Management announced the establishment of the Leon V. and Dorothy M. Skubitz Foundation in July 2008 when the initial (2007) grant was distributed.

Senior Activity Day
GIRARD — Girard Public Library will host a senior activity day at 12:30 p.m. for people aged 60 and older.
Card games, dominoes and board games will be available. Beverages and snacks will be served.

‘Hunger Games Art’
The Pittsburg Public Library is accepting registrations for a special two-part program titled “Art of the Hunger Games,” which was inspired by the best-selling book series and new movie “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins.
Participants will meet at 6 p.m. today and April 4 to create an original “mutt mask” based on the mutts or mutations depicted in the “Hunger Games.” Paper mache, clay and metallic paint will be used to construct these one-of-a-kind creations.
Janet Lewis, local artist, will lead the two-session program, which will be open free to young adults in seventh through 12th grades. However, seating will be limited to the first 30 persons to sign up.
This program is sponsored through a grant from the Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas. Anyone needing additional information may contact the PPL Youth Services Department at 620-230-5556.

School skate
A special Meadowlark Elementary School skate will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lowe’s Skateway.

Daughters of the Nile
Azrim Temple No. 81, Daughters of the Nile, will have a stated session at 7 p.m. at Mirza Shrine.
Election will be held. Refreshments will be served by Desiree Kepley.

Business Builders
Business Builders of Southeast Kansas meets from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesdays at Lamplighter Inn and Suites. Anyone needing additional information may call Cheryle Wilson at 231-8700.

Chicopee card games
Card games will be played from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. very Wednesday, except holidays, at the Chicopee Community Center.
All card games are welcome. Bridge players do not need to bring a partner, since the game is set up so that everyone plays, even when there is an odd number of players.

Weight Watchers
Weight Watchers will meet every Wednesday at the Homer Cole Community Center. Weigh-in starts at 5 p.m., followed by the meeting at 5:30 p.m.
