  • PHS girls track & field win Columbus Invitational

  • The Pittsburg High School girls track squad comfortably won the overall team prize at the Columbus Invitational on Tuesday, finishing 62 points ahead of runner-up Labette County and 86 ahead of third place Fort Scott with its 148 total points.

  • The Pittsburg High School girls track squad comfortably won the overall team prize at the Columbus Invitational on Tuesday, finishing 62 points ahead of runner-up Labette County and 86 ahead of third place Fort Scott with its 148 total points.
    Brianna Maxwell won first in the shot put (34 feet, 2.75 inches) and first in the discus (103-0), outdistancing Jillian Lattimer of Fort Scott in the shot and  Brianne Lawrence of Fort Scott and teammates Ashley Willis and Mariah Forrest in the discus. Maxwell also took fourth in the javelin (87-6).
    Sarah Jewett won first in the long jump (15-3.5) and first in the 800-meter run (2 minutes, 30.32 seconds).
    Lauren Ouderkirk and Chelsea Baker rounded out six top individual finishes, Ouderkirk in the 300 intermediate hurdles (48.18) and Baker in the triple jump (34-2). Pittsburg won the 4x100 with a time of 51.50.
    McKenzie Spresser finished second in the triple jump (33-2.5), as did Ouderkirk in the 100 (13.44) and Nicole Striplin in the 200 (27.91).
    Willis finished third in both the discus (101-0) and the javelin (86-0), Baker third in the high jump (5-2), Striplin third in the 100 (13.45), Forrest fourth in both the shot (32-2.5) and the discus (87-6), Spresser fourth in the 400 (1:04.51), Striplin fifth in the long jump (14-1) and Pittsburg won third in the 4x800 (10:40.94) and third in the 4x400 (4:23.18).
    Colgan won the 4x800 in 10:30.81, Rachel Barnes took second in the javelin (88-6), fourth in the long jump (14-3) and fifth in the triple jump (29-6.5), Moira Myers third in the 800 (2:36.44) and Megan Thompson sixth in the shot (30-4.25). The 4x100 (54.49) and 4x400 (4:39.68) both took fourth.
    Southeast senior Kayla Yancey finished second in the 100 hurdles (18.14), third in the long jump (15-1.5), third in the 300 hurdles (52.82) and sixth in the triple jump (29-4.5).
    Ginny Smith took fourth in the 100 hurdles (18.79), Natalie Timmons fifth in the discus (82-9), Madison Martin fifth in the 3200 (16:13.99), Katie Yancey sixth in the high jump (4-10) and Megan Gall sixth in the 200 (29.63). Southeast placed sixth in the 4x400 (5:01.68).
    Fort Scott standout Katren Reinbolt won the 1600 in 5:35.20 and the 3200 in commanding fashion with a time of 11:46.90, 25 seconds faster than the next best time.
    On the boys side, Pittsburg was led by first-place finishes by Marcus Striplin in the triple jump (40-10), Dakota Taylor in the discus (126-0) and Chris Huyett in the shot (43-4.5).
    Gershom Avalos took second in the shot (42-9), Skyler McGuire second in the discus (119-0), Striplin second in the long jump (19-10) and the 4x800 relay also finished second in 9:24.76.
    Nick Wuerdeman finished third in the discus (115-10), McGuire fifth in the javelin (129-4), Garrett Harmon fifth in the 110 hurdles (16.60), Josh Allmon fifth in the 200 (24.42), Kyle Untereker sixth in the shot (38-6.5), Striplin sixth in the 300 hurdles (43.40), Zack Woods sixth in the 200 (24.70) and Braden Brown sixth in the 3200 (11:25.24).
    Page 2 of 2 - The 4x100 (46.21) and the 4x400 (3:43.55) each placed fourth.
    Colgan won first in the 4x800 (9:11.49). Individually, Jonny Adamson took second in the 3200 (10:24.54) and fourth in the 1600 (4:50.25), Derek Beck third in the 100 (11.50) and fifth in the 400 (53.00), Austin Commons third in the 200 (24.27), Casey Steinmiller fourth in the 110 hurdles (16.35) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (42.10) and Conner Dayton fourth in the 100 (11.66) and sixth in the long jump (17-8).
    The 4x100 finished second (45.54) and the 4x400 third (3:40.42).
    Southeast received points from Ryan Rakestraw fourth in the high jump (5-10), its 4x800 team in fourth (9:31.29) and its 4x100 in sixth (48.94).
