  • Larry Allen Burgess, age 59 of Asbury, MO, passed away at 5:41 p.m. on June 7, 2013 at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS.

  • Larry Allen Burgess, age 59 of Asbury, MO, passed away at 5:41 p.m. on June 7, 2013 at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS.
    Born December 16, 1953 in Muskogee, OK, he was the son of the late James F. Burgess and Mildred J. Pack Burgess. Larry owned and operated L & E Express, Ltd. of Joplin and was an over-the-road truck driver for over 30 years, logging over 4 million miles of safe driving. He helped countless people and made friends with people all over the U.S. through his travels. He raced many cars at MO-Kan Dragway over the years. Following the Joplin Tornado, he and his fiancée, Traci Simmons, volunteered and helped feed hundreds of workers.
    In addition to his fiancée, he is survived by a daughter, Kari Arehart and husband Gene of Carl Junction; a son, Scott Burgess and wife Melissa of West Warwick, RI; six grandchildren, Ava, Maggie, Genevieve, Spencer and Evan Arehart, all of Carl Junction, Dylan Burgess of West Warwick; his mother, Mildred Burgess of Asbury; a sister, Sharon Burkhalter and husband Sam of Jasper, MO; four brothers, Mike Burgess and wife Charlotte of Pittsburg, KS, Jeff Burgess and wife Carolyn of Joplin, Robin Burgess and wife Cindy of Carl Junction, Brian Burgess and wife Tina of Oronogo, MO; and many nieces and nephews.
    In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kelly Burgess of Asbury.
    Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Weaver Cemetery North of Joplin with Elder Vivian Williams Davidson officiating. Austin Herr, Mike, Robin and Jeff Burgess, Jeff Ulmer and Jeff Johnson will serve as pallbearers. The family will be at the home of Robin and Cindy Burgess, 212 Chitwood in Carl Junction.
