Esther Marie Martens Gravemann, 91, of Girard, died at 11:00 P.M., Sunday, July 26, 2009 in the Heritage Nursing Home in Girard where she entered in May of 2003.

Esther Marie Martens Gravemann, 91, of Girard, died at 11:00 P.M., Sunday, July 26, 2009 in the Heritage Nursing Home in Girard where she entered in May of 2003.

She was born April 2, 1918 at rural Hepler, Kansas, the daughter of Karl W. and Sena Marie (Mahnken) Martens.  She was baptized on May 5, 1918 in the Immanuel Lutheran Church at Hepler by Oscar Kaiser.  She was confirmed on April 24, 1932 in the Immanuel Lutheran Church by Rev. R. Hildebrandt.

She married Paul F. Gravemann on September 7, 1941 in the Immanuel Lutheran Church by Rev. J. W.. A. Becker.  Mr. Gravemann preceded her in death on June 14, 2004.

They were farmers at rural Girard since 1947.

She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Girard and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She was a member of the Crawford County Women’s Republican Club and a GOP committee woman for Sherman Township for many years.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl J. Martens and Alfred H. Martens.

Surviving is a friend, Ilene Reith of Walnut, Kansas, who provided for her care, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Pastor Mark Wenzelburger and Pastor Galen Friedrichs officiating.  Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery. Friends may call after 2:00 P.M., Tuesday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard.
