  • OUR VIEW: Let’s make 2013 better than 2012

  • There are two schools of thought when one looks back at 2012. Either it was a year of disappointment or a year in which seeds were planted for future success.

First, the latter view: Major projects at Pittsburg State like the Crossland House or the John Lance Arena courts or the new turf at the football stadium were completed.

  • There are two schools of thought when one looks back at 2012. Either it was a year of disappointment or a year in which seeds were planted for future success.
First, the latter view: Major projects at Pittsburg State like the Crossland House or the John Lance Arena courts or the new turf at the football stadium were completed.
Businesses began or announced expansions, including Jake’s Fireworks, CHC-SEK, Via Christi Hospital, Masonite and Atkinson Industries.
Plans were also finalized in 2012 for many plans and projects coming in 2013. They include: SEK Art Fest, the PSU performing arts center, the Overman Student Center expansion, the PSU event center, the resolution of the Pittsburg trash issue, the construction of some of those business expansions, and the results of Imagine Pittsburg 2030. Lest we forget, there was also a championship parade for Pittsburg State in January.
There was also much disappointment, whether the frustration over trash, the gridlock on the state and federal government levels, the cuts continuing to come in government and the sluggish economy. Mother Nature continued her bizarre antics, from damaging straight-line winds in late February to floods in March and May to a drought that lasted much of the summer (and beyond).
No matter your view on 2012, it’s time to look forward.
If 2012 was bad, let’s make 2013 good. If last year was good, let’s make 2013 better. Because that’s what the new year is all about: making hope a reality.
