  • The GHS Family Career Community Leaders of America conducted several activities throughout the first semester.
On Nov. 3, FCCLA sponsored their first Color Run at the Crawford County Fairgrounds. Over 65 runners participated in the event and raised $1,360 for the Girard FCCLA scholarship fund.
Sixty-five Girard FCCLA members attended the Fall Leadership Conference at Pittsburg Memorial Auditorium Nov. 6 where they listened to inspirational guest speaker Joe White.
Mr. White, who was in a life-altering accident after a homecoming game during his junior year of high school and suffers speech and physical impairments as a result, spoke to students about making smart decisions.
“Joe White inspired us to make decisions that will help, not hurt, our futures,” senior Logan Hanson said.
District J-East president Katelin White, who is also the Girard FCCLA chapter president, led the conference.
FCCLA Adviser Emily Bray said, “She did an outstanding job leading the conference, and I’m really proud of all the hard work she put into it.”
On Nov. 26, several members attended 5-Mile Camp where they were able to ride horses, participate in team-building activities on the high and low ropes courses, and swim in the Olympic size pool.
“I liked the horseback riding, and the trails were fun. The people in charge were friendly and pushed us to do our best and not give up on things. My favorite part was the swimming pool and getting to relax,” freshman Cameron Janssen said.
Students who went to 5-Mile Camp include Audrey Bauer, Brinkley Born, Lauren Davied, Taylor Evans, Ashley Foraker, Makaihlah Gibbs, Logan Hanson, Carly Heatherly, Hadyn Herlocker, Jordan Ivey, Erica Jameson, Cameron Janssen, Breannen Kratz, Hope McLeod, Kayla Morrison, Sammy Mushonga, Mai Ohira, Lisette Paulsen, Emily Rawlings, Kasey Ruark, Kendra Samuels, Jenna Schroeder, Katlyn Williams and Paige Zimmerman.
Finishing this semester, Girard FCCLA hosted their annual Red Cross blood drive Dec. 11-12, with several older members helping with registration.
“Our FCCLA officers, Katelin White, Hadyn Herlocker, Aubri Ashbacher, Taylor Evans, Christian Provence, Audrey Bauer and Kendra Samuels, have done an outstanding job of planning events throughout the year for our FCCLA chapter. We have had a very successful semester of activities. It is very important for students to be involved, and FCCLA offers many community service activities and leadership opportunities for members to be a part of,” Mrs. Bray said.
