Carol Jean Walz, 65 of Pittsburg, KS died at 6:36 a.m., Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg, KS.
Carol was born January 5, 1944 in Carlinville, IL to Russell Otto and Dessa Mae (Wright) Varner. She attended area schools. She later graduated from Cosmetology School.
On May 21, 1983 in Rantoul, IL, she married Michael E. Walz. He survives of the home.
Carol was the owner/operator of Town and Country Beauty Shop for 12 years. She later was a manager of the Public Storage Inc., in Patchogue, N.Y. from 1987 until 1990. Afterwards she road with her husband, who was a truck driver, for many years.
In her early years, she loved to watch her children play sports. She loved everything about the beach. She liked to go to the casino and to travel.  She was an avid animal lover and bird watcher.
Additional survivors include her daughter Kari LeAnn Varner of Litchfield, IL and son Kevin LaRue Varner and companion Dr. Colleen Murphy of Flora, IL; niece Genevra Miller of South America; nephews James Miller of Champagne, IL, Glenn Miller of Long Beach, CA and Steve Miller of South America.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Pauline Miller and brother-in-law Rev. Roy Miller.
Services will be 7 p.m., Friday, July 31, 2009 at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway, Pittsburg, KS. Inurnment will be at a later date in Cedar Ridge Cemetery, Honey Bend, IL. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until service time on Friday. The family suggests expression of sympathy be in the form of memorials to Help Defray Funeral Expenses.
