Several area students have received Pittsburg State University Alumni Legacy License Plate Scholarships.

Recipients of this scholarship must have a parent who is an alum of PSU, be a zero hour freshman or new transfer student and have a minimum 3.0 grade point average or 21 ACT score. This scholarship is funded by annual royalty fees collected through the Gorilla License Plate Program.
Latest area recipients of this scholarship are: Joey Bunney, son of Angela Beach, Girard; Kristen Curran, daughter of Patrick and Tresia Curran, Pittsburg; Clarence Jacob Hall, son of Mishone Luttrell, Pittsburg, and Clarence James Hall, Joplin; Austin Marrone, son of Kenneth and Rhonda Marrone, Asbury, Mo.; Ashley Martin, daughter of Kenny and Becky Martin, Cherokee; Ryan Nusbaum, son of Joseph  and Paula Nusbaum, Pittsburg; Brooke Prier, daughter of Tina and Heath Prier, Pittsburg; Deidra Rockers, daughter of Jim and Susan Rockers, Weir;  Taylor Seward, daughter of Kevin and Jackie Seward, Pittsburg; Sarah Valentine, daughter of Lori Mitchell, Pittsburg, and Scott Valentine, Kansas City, Mo.; Austin VanBecelarere, son of Doug and Shannon VanBecelaere, Pittsburg; Kyler Vena, son of Joe and Jessica Vena, Frontenac; John A. PSU also offers the Academic Achievement Award, based on cumulative high school grade point average and ACT score.
