Floyd R. Crites, 89, of rural Arcadia died at 11:40 a.m. Monday, March 26, 2012 at Mercy Hospital at Ft. Scott, Kan.

Mr. Crites was born November 10, 1922 at rural Arcadia the son of raymond Edward and Myrtle Sotts Crites. Floyd was retired from Pacific Mercury in Joplin and also was a farmer. He was raised in rural Arcadia and attended Caplinger Rural Grade School and graduated from Arcadia High School in 1941. He married Edna L. Yartz on December 24, 1943 at Pittsburg, Kansas. Mrs. Crites preceded him in death January 9, 1999. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. He lived in rural Arcadia most of his life. He was a member of Lon Helm Post #182 American Legion at Arma and the Arma United Methodist Church. Survivors include two brothers, Raymond (Nancy) Crites of Portland, Oregon, and Merlin (Gloria) Crites of Yucca Valley, California, two sisters, Betty Donaldson and Mary (Ike) Irvin both of Portland, Oregon, two brothers-in-law, Henry (Madeline) Yartz Jr. and Joe Kuhel both of Arma, and a large extended loving family of nieces and nephews. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant daughter Judy Crites, a brother, Andrew Crites, and a sister, Audrey Nixon.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the Highland Park Cemetery in Pittsburg, Kansas with the Rev. Steve Cole officiating. Entombment will be in the Crites Mausoleum. Friends may call 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the Bedene Funeral Home in Arma. Ft. Riley Burial Detail will conduct full military graveside services.
