  • Docia Parker passed away January 31, 2013 at her home in Pittsburg, KS.  She had a heart attack and went suddenly and quietly into that eternal rest.

  • Docia Parker passed away January 31, 2013 at her home in Pittsburg, KS.  She had a heart attack and went suddenly and quietly into that eternal rest.
    Docia Maxine Brown Parker was born June 15, 1921 in Labette county to Loyd and Mary Bess (Robison) Brown.  She attended grade school at Shiloh grade school and college at Parsons Junior College and Pittsburg State University.  She earned her Masters in Education and taught at the elementary school level for a total of 40 years.  The last 20 years she taught kindergarten and first grade at Weir, KS.
    In 1948 she married Raymond Parker who was in the service at the time.  He survives in the home.  In 1949 she moved to Honolulu, Hawaii where Raymond was stationed.  She taught school there in a Christian missionary school.
    Docia remained a member of the Baptist denomination from age 8 until 1970 when she joined the Presbyterian Church of Pittsburg, Ks.  She served as a Deacon and was a member of the Ladies Bible study group and the sewing group.
    Docia was an avid quilter and a charter member of the Little Balkans Quilt Guild in addition to making several quilts on her own.
    Docia and her husband loved to travel and visited Europe several times as well as New Zealand and Australia.  They took many trips by bus within the US as well as by auto covering all the states and Canada.
    Docia is survived by her spouse and one son Bruce Mark Parker, his wife Candace (Bradley) Parker.  Bruce was born in Hawaii.  A daughter, Sharlene Leilani Parker Pruett.
    Sharlene was born in San Diego, CA.  Grandson, David Parker and wife Sarah and their children, William, Anna and Alexander; Grandson, Daniel Bruce Parker and wife Amy and their children, Miles and Evan; Grandson, Damon Michael Parker and his wife Stacy and their son, Byrnes Parker.  Granddaughter, Dannae Beth Parker; Grandson, Russell Parker Pruett and his wife, Sarah Jane (Kennedy) and their child, Leilani Parker Pruett.  Also surviving are one step granddaughter and six step great grandchildren.
    Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Friday February 8, 2013 at The Presbyterian Church at 6th and Pine St., in Pittsburg, KS.  Inurnment will be at a later date.  Condolences can be sent to www.bathnaylor.com  Memorial contributions can be made The Presbyterian Church, memorials may be brought by or mailed to the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home 522 S.
