    Midwest Regional Ballet of Joplin and the American Opera Studio of Kansas City will have vocal auditions at 7:30 p.m. at Pittsburg Memorial Auditorium for two upcoming performances.
    “The Macabre,” a collection of dark operas, ballet and aerial performance, will be presented Oct. 26 and 27 in Pittsburg Memorial Auditorium.
    “Cats,” based on the hit Andrew Lloyd Webber show that ran on Broadway for 27 years, is set for April 18 - 21 at Pittsburg Memorial Auditorium.
    Dr. Bill Hall, director of the American Opera Studio, will act as vocal director of both shows, and Kaye Lewis, MRB director, will be director of choreography and staging.
    Auditions will be for both shows. Vocalists will need to  do stage movement, but not full choreography. Those wishing to audition for only one show should bring a vocal piece that fits the genre of the show. Vocalists interested in doing both shows will need to bring two songs to sing, one for each genre. An accompanist will be available.

    Pittsburg Farmers Market
    Pittsburg Farmers Market will open at 7:30 a.m. at Second and Broadway and run until noon or sold out.
    This will be “Sampler Saturday,” and many of the vendors will offer samples of  their sale items.
    Produce available will include cantaloupes, sweet corn, cucumbers, white cucumbers, burpless cucumbers, several varieties of okra, tomatoes, eggplant, onions, green, red and yellow peppers, green beans, zucchini, yellow summer squash and other kinds of squash, chives, mint, dill, sage and lemon grass.
    Also available will be farm fresh eggs, raw honey, jams and jellies, dip mixes, homebaked goods and craft items including handmade rugs and other woven items, jewelry, wooden bowls, yard furniture, greeting cards, picture frames, quilts, purses, totes, lip balm,  and soap.
    Shoppers may pay with credit, debit or Vision cards, and some produce vendors also accept Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program vouchers.

    Can collection
    Members of Sunflower Kiwanis Club will collect aluminum cans from 8 a.m. to noon in Dillon’s parking lot. Proceeds will benefit area youth.
    Democratic Women’s Club
    Crawford County Democratic Women’s Club will have a reorganization meeting at 9:30 a.m. in the second-floor seminar room at the Pittsburg Public Library.
    Anyone interested in Democratic politics and the upcoming elections may attend. Those needing additional information may call Lynn Grant, 620-308-5518.

    American Legion Auxiliary No. 64 will not meet at the post home because of the extreme heat.
    Republican Women
    Crawford County Republican Women will have a bi-monthly meeting at 10 a.m. at the home of Marsha Wallace, 1019 E. 580th Ave., just east of Frontenac.
    Agenda will focus on the Sept. 30 fundraiser at Bobby G’s as well as the upcoming election. Guest speaker will be Emily Dickey, “Caring for America” chairman.

    Battalion reunion
    PARSONS — Former members of 243rd Supply and Service Battalion - 243rd Quartermaster BN  and their spouses will have a reunion from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 105 Main, Parsons.
    Snacks will be provided.
    Auxiliary drawing
    Albert M. Wheeler Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1158 Auxiliary will have an evening drawing at the Crawford County Fair.
    Members extended their thanks to all who donated prizes for the drawing.
