The Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce announced Thursday the finalists for the 2010 Small Business of the Year Award. The finalists are Dr. Elias Tawil, The Little Shop of Flowers and Wimmer Vision Care.

The 2010 Small Business of the Year Award will be presented to this year’s recipient during the Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce annual banquet, along with the Spirit of Pittsburg, City of Pittsburg Employer of the Year and Business Education Alliance Awards.

The banquet is scheduled for Thursday, May 27 at Memorial Auditorium.  Tickets for the event are $30 per person and can be purchased at the Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce, located at 117 W. 4th St.

The Small Business of the Year finalists were selected based on criteria including leadership in the community, business achievements, job development and involvement in Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce activities.  These businesses are recognized for their contributions to the economy and overall progress in Crawford County.

“It’s not just about company growth, although that is something the committee does look at,” said Blake Benson, president of the Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce. “What they’re looking for is a well-rounded business that has not only grown financially, but has also made in impact on the community. They look at what other organizations they are involved in and how they take care of their employees.”
Benson said 10 local businesses were nominated for the SBOY award. For more information, please contact the chamber office at (620) 231-1000.
