MARYVILLE, Mo. — The Pittsburg State baseball team managed just two runs over two games as the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats got two complete games from pitchers Bill Disselhoff and Danny Malone to sweep the Pitt State 12-2 and 10-0 Sunday afternoon at Bearcat Field at Maryville, Mo.

The losses have eliminated the Gorillas from the MIAA Postseason Tournament which begins Friday, May 9 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan.

In the first game, the Gorillas struck first as Brett Hothan scored on an A.J. Loyd RBI double to left field that made the score 1-0 PSU.

Northwest countered with two in the second. John Henne Jr. scored on a wild pitch and Trevor Conner drove in Chris Benham with a double to right center.

Patrick Martin scored for the Gorillas in the top of the fifth on an RBI double from Luke Naccarato.

A Ryan Bledsoe single started a four-run fifth and Henne blasted a two-run home run to left center to make it a 7-2 Bearcat advantage.

Conner led off the sixth with a solo home run to left center and a pair of Gorilla errors helped extend the inning. The Bearcats batted around and scored five runs, three unearned, on four hits.

Disselhoff logged a complete game three hitter and retired 10 straight from the first through the fourth. Over the seven innings of work, he tossed 79 pitches and struck out two.

In the second game, the Gorillas would not fare much better as Malone scattered four hits and allowed just five baserunners.

No Gorilla got past second base as Malone retired 12 straight in the middle of the game.

Northwest scored two runs in the first on a Gorilla error and added five in the third. Bledsoe doubled to start the third inning and Nick Pfeiffer reached on an error. Britt Westman then took a 2-2 pitch over the left field wall for a three-run home run, his 12th of the season. Another Gorillas error and wild pitch would score the final two in the third.

The Bearcats added another run in the fifth, seventh and eighth. The game ended due the the MIAA ten run rule when Westman looped a ball to right field scoring Bledsoe.
Despite being eliminated from the postseason tournament, the Gorillas will still host Drury University in a non-conference game at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 30 at Al Ortolani Field before traveling to Fort Hays State to close out the MIAA regular season on May 2-4.
