  • Weir Homecoming set for this weekend

  • The annual Weir Homecoming, sponsored by the Weir Civic Club, will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

  • The annual Weir Homecoming, sponsored by the Weir Civic Club, will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
    Activities will begin at 5 p.m. Friday with a free chili and bean feed in the Weir Park. Those attending should bring bowls, spoons and lawn chairs.
    Following at 6:30 p.m. will be the crowning of the homecoming queen on Main Street. Crown bearer will be Hope Williams. Entertainment will be provided by the Southeast Junior High Lancer Cheerleaders at 7 p.m., with a cake walk at 7:30 p.m. The evening will close with a karaoke contest at 8:30 p.m., with Debbie Bennett as emcee.
    Homecoming parade will be at 11 a.m. Saturday with Barbara Whitten, former Weir schoolteacher, as grand marshal and Aaron Williams as announcer.
    Lunch will be provided by various organizations and churches during the noon hour.
    A turtle race will be held at 1 p.m. Participants will need to furnish their own turtles, and no snappers will be allowed. Games and events are scheduled at 1:30 p.m. on Main Street, with Gretchen Andrews as announcer. Faith Tabernacle gospel singing will be at 6:30 p.m. in the Weir Park.
    Weir Alumni will have a gathering Saturday, beginning with a social hour at 4:30 p.m. at Lamplighter Inn, Pittsburg. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m.
    Weir Public Library will have a bake sale at 3 p.m. Sunday  in the Weir Park. Also at 3 p.m. in the library will be a prize drawing, with Gretchen Andrews as announcer. In case of inclement weather, it will be moved to the Weir Civic Center.
