Several Crawford County women attended the 32nd biennial convention of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League in Topeka.
Attending were Kathryn Richard, Jennine Marrone and Kathy Scott of Zion Lutheran Church, Pittsburg; Linda Runyon and Kathy McGowen, Trinity Lutheran Church, Girard; and Debbie Lehman, Lavonne Kmiec and Lisa Schaaf, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hepler.
Nearly 500 members and guests from across the state attended the conference, held April 11-13 at the Topeka Capitol Plaza Hotel.
Activities included the April 11 communion worship service at which the Rev. Ted Cook of Zion Church, Pittsburg, assisted; daily Bible studies; and mission and inspirational speakers, including Jan Wendorf, National LWML president.
Mission projects totaling $40,000 were selected, along with more than $46,000 in other mission grants. Participants also contributed “ingathering” items such as food, personal care and paper products for the Topeka Rescue Mission, cancer caps for St. Francis Cancer Center in Topeka, pediatric quilts and preemie baby outfits for Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka, and quilts for Haskell Light Campus Ministry, Lawrence.
