The three men arrested in the death of 21-year-old Ryan Clay Bailey made their first appearance in Crawford County courts on Monday morning.

The three men arrested in the death of 21-year-old Ryan Clay Bailey made their first appearance in Crawford County courts on Monday morning.


Ricky R. Smith, Randy Rivera and Oscar DeLeon appeared in court Monday on charges of first degree murder. If convicted, the mandatory sentence is life in prison. Rivera is being held on a $1 million bond, and Smith and DeLeon are being held without bond.


Each man was appointed an attorney on Monday, and a status conference has been set for December, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for January. Each are presumed innocent until proven guilty.


The fourth suspect in the murder, Nathan Whitney, remains at large. Police said more than  ago that Whitney is 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs approximately 180 pounds. He was last known to reside at 1602 South Iowa in Joplin. Maj. Brent Narges of the Pittsburg Police Department said Whitney should be considered armed and dangerous.
