  • Lavon Maurine Phipps, 86 of Pittsburg, KS died at 5:10 am, February 6, 2013 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg following a 10-year battle with cancer.
    She was born March 18, 1926 in Pittsburg, the daughter of Ira and Mildred (Wilson) Willey.
    On January 17, 1946 she was united in marriage to Bennie M. Phipps in Pittsburg, he preceded her in death on October, 19, 1990.
    She worked at the Parsons Army Ammunition Plant, Peter Pan Ice Cream, Washington School Lunch Lady, local Agency for the Kansas City Star and in her later years was a caregiver for the elderly.
    She was a member of the Church Of Christ in Pittsburg.
    Survivors include two sons: Terry and Vickie Phipps of Pittsburg and Benne Phipps of Pittsburg and two daughters: Saundra and Larry Rhodes of Pittsburg and Beverly and Gerald Ross, Jr. of Pittsburg; nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a great-great grandson Rogelio Diego Banuelos.
    Funeral services will be 1:30 pm, Saturday, February 9, 2013 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg with Aaron Williams officiating.  Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Friday from 7-8pm at the funeral home.  Condolences may be left at www.bathnaylor.com.  Memorials may be made to the Via Christi Cancer Center; these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.  Friends may also come by the home of Saundra Rhodes 1304 E 7th, Pittsburg.  Services and arrangements are under the direction of the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home 522 S.
