  • Melvin Loyd Patrick Jr., 86, of Franklin, KS, passed away at 4:44 a.m., Saturday, February 16, 2013, at his residence.

  • Melvin Loyd Patrick Jr., 86, of Franklin, KS, passed away at 4:44 a.m., Saturday, February 16, 2013, at his residence.
    He was born October 27, 1926, at Mindenmines, Mo, the son of Melvin and Grace Patrick.  He attended local schools and went on to graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications.
    Mr. Patrick served in the United States Navy Seabees during World War II.  He was Honorably Discharged in July of 1946.
    On October 21, 1970, he was united in marriage to LaVon N. Davis at Fayetteville, AR.  She survives of the home.
    Mr. Patrick worked for the United States Post Office for 32 years before his retirement on April 1, 1989.  Upon retirement he received the award of the Million Mile Club.
    He attended the Open Door Fellowship Church.  He held membership in the Pittsburg American Legion and the V.F.W.  He was also involved in the rebuilding of the Franklin Community Park and Community Center.
    In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Terry Patrick of Columbia, MO, two daughters, Connie Lester of Warrensburg, MO, and Share Haines of Collinsville, IL, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
    He is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Candace Tarrants, and one sister, Wanda Smith.
    A service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at the Brenner Mortuary, with Pastor Don Talent officiating.  Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, Pittsburg.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. until service time, at the Brenner Mortuary.  The family suggests memorials to the Franklin Community Park Fund.  These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th St., Pittsburg, KS  66762.  Friends may leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, KS.
