Dave Spiering, Lamar, Mo., will sign copies of his new book, “I Surrender All,” from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Pittsburg Hastings store.

“It’s a book of challenge,” the author said in a telephone interview. “We live in a world that most think is going in the wrong direction.”

The book, published by Tate Publishing, challenges non-Christians to consider if the Gospels of Jesus are true, but also issues a challenge to Christians as well.

“If you’re going to talk the talk, you need to walk the walk,” Spiering said. “The first three chapters of the book are foundational, and the next 13 are meddling. If anybody gets their toes stepped on, I know that I did. It’s like the Michael Jackson song ‘The Man in the Mirror’. If you want things to change, you need to change, too.”

He said the actual writing of “I Surrender All” took about five months.

“I put in a large number of 70-hour weeks on the book,” Spiering said.

This is his second book. In 2003 he released “Seven Score and Four,” published by Authorhouse.

“It’s an historical parody,” he explained. “In it I take a number of present-day people back to 1863 to re-write history the way they think it should be written.”

Spiering has also found other outlets for expressing his opinions.

“I’m guilty of letters to the editor of the Joplin Globe,” he said.

He is also active in the Milford Christian Church.

“I teach Sunday school and junior church, do one nursing home service a month and a hospital service,” Spiering said.

“I Surrender All” is available at Hastings, from Tate Publishing and online, in a print edition or as an eBook download.
