The baseball team improved to 16-0 with 11-0 and 14-0 routs of Columbus.

In the opener, Blake Vail pitched a five-inning complete game shutout, allowing four hits, striking out seven and walking only two.

Offensively, Vail and Gus Brunetti each recorded three hits and Bryan Wade and Avery Coronado joined the multi-hit parade. All nine Frontenac hitters picked up at least one hit against Columbus pitchers Kendale Hale and Ben Jones. Wade and Coronado each drove in three runs and Vail two.

In the nightcap, Matt Standlee resumed his reign of terror against Cherokee County opponents, driving in four runs on two hits, a double and a triple (10 RBI last Monday against Galena). Brett Macary went 4-for-4 with four RBI and Blake Barto added a 3-3 with two RBI.

Macary, Standlee and Caleb Spangler combined on a two-hitter.

Frontenac softball won 8-6 and 15-2 over Columbus to improve to 15-1.

Senior pitcher Lindsey Gorham earned the win in both games, striking out 10 in the first game and one in the second. Kennedi Fields pitched a pair of innings in the nightcap and gave up one hit during her two frames.

Offensively, Jennifer Long and Rachel Amershek sparked the Raiders in the opener. Long hit a pair of doubles and scored a pair of runs. Amershek drove in three runs and stole a base.

In the nightcap, Nayna Fields and Haley Wilson each drove in three runs. Ryleigh McCartney picked up two RBI. Long and Ashton Alex each scored three runs. Wilson, Samantha Bonner, Long and Alex recorded three hits apiece with Bonner and Wilson batting a combined 6-6, each 3-3.

Both Raider teams play Southeast on Thursday, of course weather permitting.

Colgan vs. Riverton
The St. Mary’s Colgan Panthers swept Riverton in baseball, earning two run-rule victories 10-0 and 13-3.

In the opener, Colgan turned a 4-0 game into a 10-0 win with six runs in the sixth and Christian Cedeno tossed a one-hitter.

Ryan Cedeno and Drew Dawson led the offense with two RBI. Colton Gilbert, Nate Grimaldi, Austin Kratz and Kaleb Hamilton each picked up single RBI.

The Panthers came back for the sweep, again plating six runs in the sixth to run-rule the Rams. Riverton scored three runs, picked up three hits and made three errors.

Kratz drove in three runs and four runs were driven in by the Cedenos, two by Christian and two by Ryan. Gilbert, V.J. Piccini and Tully Yoakam added RBI.

Piccini earned the win, as Cedeno and Piccini combined to allow four hits.

Riverton softball defeated Colgan 7-6 and 10-6.

In the first game, Abbie O’Brien went 4-for-4 with all four hits singles and Colgan took a 6-5 lead into the bottom of the sixth and came out behind 7-6 after Riverton scored two unearned runs.

In the second game, Colgan fell behind early and scored all six of its runs in the fifth.

Amanda McBride cleared the bases with a double, the three RBI highlight of her 2-for-4 night at the plate.

Colgan softball plays Labette County in Altamont today.
