Christmas Eve night, a fire claimed a rural Crawford County home.

According to the Crawford County Sheriff’s department, deputies were called to 606 N. Elm St. in Hepler at 7:11 p.m. Friday to the report of a structure fire.

When deputies arrived, they found the home, owned by Travis S. Smith of Hepler, on fire.
The home sustained a “substantial amount of damage” according to a report from the Crawford County Sheriff’s department.

There were no injuries and no one home at the time of the fire.

Units from the Hepler Fire Department, Walnut Fire Department, Sherman Township Fire Department, Brazilton Fire Department and Crawford County EMS, all responded to the incident.

The fire remains under investigation by the Crawford County Sheriff’s department.
