    Pittsburg Farmers’ Market will have opening day for the 2013 season at 7:30 a.m. at Second and Broadway. The market will continue until noon or sold out.

    Pittsburg Farmers’ Market
    Pittsburg Farmers’ Market will have opening day for the 2013 season at 7:30 a.m. at Second and Broadway. The market will continue until noon or sold out.
    Items available at the market this week will include eggs, beef, Ossabaw hog, traditional pork, spinach, oriental salad greens, possibly kale, radishes, leaf lettuce, cabbage, spring onions, garden plants, homemade soaps, jams, jellies, honey, beeswax lip balm and lotion bars, candles, jewelry, Amish white bread, honey whole wheat bread, focaccia, Italian bread, garlic butter and honey butter.
    Delia Lister from Pittsburg State University Nature Reach will be a special guest at the market. She specializes in birds of prey and will bring several birds from the program and discuss them with market visitors.

    Rummage sale
    Zion Lutheran Church will have its second annual “love” rummage sale from 6:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the church activity center, 102 W. Jackson.
    This rummage sale will be different in that the donated items will not be priced. Those shopping will be asked to give monetarily what they feel they can or wish to give for items they need or want, or they can simply take them at no cost.
    This is a “love” sale to help those in need in the community. Money raised from the sale will go toward Zion projects.
    A bake sale will also be held during the rummage sale, and baked items will be priced as marked. Breakfast and lunch will also be available. Money raised from the bake and food sales will go toward the local Sunday morning broadcasts of “The Lutheran Hour.”
    Elks breakfast
    Pittsburg Elks Lodge No. 412, 2312 W. Fourth, will serve breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m.
    Menu will feature eggs, biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage, hashbrowns and juice, milk, coffee or tea. Cost will be $6 per plate.
    Bulk item drop-off
    Crawford County, the City of Pittsburg and the Southeast Kansas  Recycling Center will provide a free large item drop-off from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the recycling center, 615 S. Joplin.
    Items accepted will include mattresses, box springs, furniture, chairs, couches and appliances. However, the center will not accept trash, yard waste or carpet.
    Cherokee breakfast
    CHEROKEE — Cherokee American Legion will serve breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m.
    Menu will offer five breakfast plates, each costing $5. They are biscuit and sausage gravy, scrambled eggs and hash browns; two pancakes, two sausage patties and eggs; biscuit and sausage gravy, hash browns and sausage patties; two pancakes, two sausage patties and hash browns; and eggs, sausage patties and hash browns.
    Page 2 of 2 - Coffee is included in the price. Milk or juice will be available for an additional 50 cents.
    Mulberry breakfast
    MULBERRY — Mulberry Wednesday Domino Ladies will serve breakfast from 7:30 to 10 a.m. or until they run out at the Mulberry Senior Citizens Building.
    Menu will feature sausage patties, sausage gravy, biscuits, scrambled eggs, juice and coffee. Free-will offerings will be accepted, and will be used for senior citizens activities.
    VFW Auxiliary
    Albert M. Wheeler Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 1158  will have a regular meeting at 9:30 a.m. at the post home. Effie Toney, president, will preside.
    Machine Pitch Clinic
    J.L. Hutchinson Baseball League will host a machine pitch clinic at the Pittsburg Family YMCA.
    Schedule will be as follows: 7-year-olds, 10 to 11 a.m.; 8-year-olds, 11 a.m. to noon.
    This will be the last opportunity for anyone not yet registered for Machine Pitch (7&8 years), Ted Carnino (9 & 10 years) or Frank German (11 &  12 years) leagues to register during clinic hours. Online registration is available at www.jhutch.net.
    Legion auxiliary
    Benjamin A. Fuller American Legion Auxiliary Unit 64 will have a regular meeting at 1:30 p.m. at the post home. President Elsie Mason will be in charge.
