    Alzheimer’s caregivers
    A breakfast club for Alzheimer’s caregivers will meet at 9  a.m. at the First United Methodist Church.
    The club offers an opportunity for caregivers to talk with those who share similar issues while having a free breakfast. Anyone may attend who serves as a family caregiver to a person with Alzheimer’s or a similar dementia.
    Anyone wishing to register or needing additional information may call the Southeast Kansas Regional Office of the  Alzheimer’s Association, Parsons, at 620-421-6550, ext. 1794.
    Cherokee seniors
    CHEROKEE — Cherokee Senior Citizens will meet at 11:30 a.m. at the Cherokee Community Building. Wellness checks will be available for those who want them.
    Lunch will be served at noon, with fried chicken and bread provided. Those attending should bring a side dish or dessert. All persons 50 and older may attend.
    Kiwanis Club
    Pittsburg Kiwanis Club will meet at noon in  dePaul Hall, Via Christi Hospital. Program will be presented by Chris Kelly.
    Leann Webb will serve as cashier and Joe Beauchamp will be greeter. Amanda Minton will give the invocation.
    UMWA
    Local 14, District 12, United Mine Workers of America, will meet for lunch, catered by Gerald Blazic, at noon at the Homer Cole Community Center.
    Members are asked to bring their hard hats for a group picture. The meeting will be open to all UMWA members.
    Low Vision Group
    Pittsburg Low Vision Support Group will meet at 2 p.m. at Via Christi Village.

    PPL computer class
    Pittsburg Public Library will offer a free public computer class on creating a digital movie with Windows Movie Maker from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the PPL computer lab.
    No registration is necessary. Those attending should have the ability to use a mouse.
    Anti-violence walk
    Pittsburg State University Women’s Studies Club will have a SlutWalk march and rally at 3 p.m., starting from the PSU Oval.
    SlutWalk is a march and rally designed to end sexual violence and the bullying tactics and justification of sexual violence that is victim blaming, as well as reclaim the word “slut.”
    The SlutWalk movement originated in Toronto, Canada, in response to Constable Michael Sanguinetti’s statement at a York University safety forum that “women should avoid dressing like sluts in order to not be victimized.” The first SlutWalk was held April 3, 2011 in Toronto, and the movement has spread to 81 major cities around the world.

    McCune Alumni Steering Committee will meet at Chicken Mary’s. Dinner and fellowship will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a business session. Carolyn Michael, president, will preside.
    Planning will begin for the reception, program and banquet at the all-school reunion to be held Sept. 28. Members of  the 1963 graduating class are asked to come to start work on their 50th reunion. All McCune graduates may attend and share ideas.
    Alumni are also asked to think of school memories to submit for the yearly newsletter which will be mailed out in July.
    Senior exercise
    Girard Medical Center will host a free senior exercise class at 8:30 a.m. at the Homer Cole Community Center. Anyone needing additional information may call the center at 231-9773.
    TOPS KS 0884
    TOPS KS 0884 meets every Thursday at Knights of Columbus Towers, 700 N. Pine.
    Weigh-in will begin at 9 a.m., with the business session following at 9:30 a.m.

    Frontenac bingo
    Frontenac American Legion Post 43 will sponsor bingo from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Frontenac Senior Citizens Center. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
    TOPS KS 1120
    TOPS KS 1120 Pittsburg will meet at 4:30 p.m. at the Pittsburg Public Library.
    Mission of TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) is to support members as they take off and keep off pounds sensibly. The organization offers an Exchange program with no special foods to buy and weekly private weigh-in. Annual membership is $28 for adults 18 and older. Children aged 7 to 17 and spouses of members may join at half price. The first visit is free. Anyone needing additional information may call 620-235-1790.
    Columbus dance
    COLUMBUS — A dance will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. every Thursday at the Cherokee County Hospitality Center, 516 N. Kansas, Columbus.
