Carol S. Phillips, 72, of Pittsburg, died at 8:27 am, Thursday April 18, 2013 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS.
She was born February 1, 1941 in Joplin, MO the daughter of Rufus Amos and Anna Stewart McAfee. She had been a resident of Pittsburg for 54 years, moving from Joplin, MO.
She married Vergil Phillips on August 7, 1958 in Joplin. He preceded her in death on June 20, 2009 in Pittsburg, KS.
Mrs. Phillips had been the elevator operator at Crowell’s Professional Building and most recently owned and operated Grandma Carol’s Daycare in Pittsburg, prior to her retirement.
She was of the Baptist Faith and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Joplin, MO. Mrs. Phillips was an organ donor.
Survivors include one son Vergil Phillips of Kansas City, MO; two daughters Debbie Fletcher of Joplin, MO and Louise McFarland of Pittsburg; her life partner Bill Klubek of the home; one sister Betty Ann McAfee of Rumford, Maine; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother Don McAfee; 5 sisters Dorothy, Ginny, Cathy, Dee and Mary Lou.
Memorial services will be 7 pm Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway in Pittsburg, KS with the Rev. Mike Hart, officiating.
Inurnment will be at a later date in Saginaw Cemetery. The family will receive their friends from 5 to 7 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. The family suggests expressions of sympathy be in the form of donations to help with final expenses. Condolences may be left at our web site www.bathnaylor.com.
