From school districts to local cities, the area saw a major shift in leadership over the course of 2008.

That started with Allen Gill and Gary Price stepping down as Pittsburg City Manager and Pittsburg USD 250 Superintendent, respectively, and ended with Pittsburg State University President Tom Bryant announcing his retirement shortly after the start of the school year.

Two of the replacements have been on an interim basis. John Van Gorden stepped in as interim Pittsburg city manager, a spot he’s held on multiple occasions, while Robin Dexter became the interim USD 250 Superintendent. Both were small steps up — Van Gorden was serving as assistant city manager, Dexter the assistant superintendent.

USD 250 and PSU have started the search process for their new leaders, while Pittsburg has yet to start its city manager search.

Changes weren’t limited to Pittsburg leadership — Mike Philpot accepted the position as Northeast USD 246 Superintendent, while Tim Schook became Arma’s city administrator. Girard also named Gary Emry as city sdministrator following the retirement of Mike West.
