  • Mitt Romney has selected Congressman Paul Ryan as his running mate, but what do we know about Paul Ryan. He was born in 1970 in Wisconsin. He graduated from Miami University of Ohio in 1992. In 1998 he was elected to Congress at age 28. In a speech in 2005 to the Atlas Society, a group dedicated to promoting Ayn Rand’s beliefs he stated, “I grew up reading Ayn Rand and it taught me quite a bit about who I am and what my value systems are, and what my beliefs are. The reason I got involved in public service, if I had to credit one thinker, one person, would be Ayn Rand. There is no better place to find the moral case for capitalism and individualism than through Ayn Rand’s writings and works.”
Ryan said that Randian individualism represents “ the moral foundation of America.” Then this year an organization Catholics United questioned Ryan, a Catholic, as to why the teachings of Jesus Christ were not the basis for his value systems and beliefs. Mrs. Rand was a Russian born atheist that believed the government should serve the interests of the wealthy and not interfere in the free market. She didn’t believe in the family unit nor society. In April 2012 Congressman Ryan told the National Review that he really prefers the writings of the Italian Dominican priest, Thomas Aquinas, and “rejects Rand’s atheist philosophy." What would Republicans say if our current president had had Ayn Rand’s philosophy? No problem brother?
