  • JoAnn Vacca, 77 of Pittsburg died at 5:53 p.m. Friday June 21, 2013 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg.
    She was born August 27, 1935 in Pittsburg, KS the daughter of Joseph and Myrtle (Overton) McCrea.
    JoAnn lived her entire life in the Frontenac/Pittsburg areas. She attended Lakeside Elementary School in Pittsburg was a 1953 graduate of Pittsburg High School and attended the Mount Carmel Hospital Nursing Program.
    She married Robert G. Vacca on May 14, 1955 in Miami, OK; he preceded her in death on April 26, 1991.
    JoAnn worked as a nurseís assistant at the Old Mount Carmel Hospital and for Dr. Bourgault. She then worked in accounts payable for Monsourís.
    She was of the Catholic Faith. She was an avid fan of Notre Dame Sports and enjoyed attending her children and grandchildrenís sporting events.
    Survivors include daughters Margaret Smith and husband Mike of Dunedin, FL, Roberta Vacca and Karl Dittmann of Webb City, MO, Linda Wosel and husband Byron of Katy, TX; sons Robert Vacca and wife Missy, Tom Vacca and Sara Mitchell all of Pittsburg; a sister Frances Lieberman of San Antonio, TX; 10 Grandchildren, 4 Great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother Arthur McCrea a sister Marie Heaton and sis-Joan Velia.
    Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday June 27, 2013 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac with Father Thomas Stroot as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Mount Carmel Cemetery. The parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg where the family will receive friends following until 8 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon on Wednesday.
