  • Mateel Alice Loyd, 77, of Girard, died at 7:41 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, at the Girard Medical Center at Girard, Kan.

  • Mateel Alice Loyd, 77, of Girard, died at 7:41 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, at the Girard Medical Center at Girard, Kan.
    Mrs. Loyd was born Dec. 9, 1935, at Atchison, Kan., the daughter of Lawrence Albert and Mateel Ida Winzer Wood Sr. Alice was a homemaker, a bookkeeper for many years, and also an operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone. She worked very hard to provide for her family. She was raised in Atchison, Kan., and graduated from Atchison High School in 1953. She lived in Kansas City, Kan., before moving to Girard in 1971. She married Clarence Arthur Loyd Sr. on April 13, 1958, at Miami, Okla. Mr. Loyd preceded her in death Sept. 26, 1994. She was a member of the Arma Family Christian Center. Survivors include two daughters, Judy Ann Loyd Scott of Pittsburg and Kimberly Mateel (Jeff) Rose of Arma; three sons, Clarence “Pat” Arthur (Liza) Loyd Jr. of Girard, William “Bill” Franklin (Stephanie) Loyd of Girard, and Jeffery Alan (Lisa) Loyd of Girard; a niece raised in the home, Vera Jean Thompson of Girard; four sisters, Carolyn Rose Kane of Cummings, Kan., Betty Irene Bennett of Kansas City, Kan., Marilyn Elaine Wood of Louisville, Ky., and Jo Ann Dobson of Polo, Mo., all who helped her very much; a brother, Charles Herbert Wood of Leavenworth, Kan.; 20 grandchildren, Rhiannon Portwood, McKinsey McAtee, Maxwell Scott, Nichole Rose, Shauna Rose, Marcus Estrada, Courtney Kloer, Joshua Rose, SheKinah Rose, James Carter, Leon Delmez, Ashley Loyd, Jolene Tennison, Madison Tennison, Megan Loyd, Shaleene Loyd, Caleb Loyd, Hattie Loyd, Chloe Loyd, and Harlow Loyd; 16 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Raymond Randolph Scott; and a brother, Lawrence Albert Wood Jr.
    Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013, at the Bedene Funeral Home at Arma with Pastor Jeff Rose officiating. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Saturday at the Bedene Chapel in Arma, where the family will receive friends from 5-6 p.m. before the services. Alice will be cremated after the services and burial of the cremains will be at a later date at the Englevale Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the Arma Family Christian Center. Donations may be sent to or left at the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, Box 621, Arma, KS 66712.
