  • Henry Yartz Jr., 83, of Arma, died at 12:43 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2013, at his home.
    Mr. Yartz was born Nov. 9, 1929, at Dunkirk, Kan., the son of Henry and Lillian M. Sandritter Yartz Sr. Henry was a retired supervisor for a cable manufacturer and a farmer. He was a lifelong resident of Arma. He was raised in Arma and graduated from Arma High School in 1947. He had worked for Barney Paglia, the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons, Pacific Mercury, LaBarge, and Mid-Con Cable in Joplin for 35 years, retiring in 1992. He married Madeline M. Borello on June 10, 1950, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Arma. Mrs. Yartz survives at the home. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Arma and the S.N.P.J. Lodge No. 225 at Arma. Survivors include his wife, Madeline, of the home; his children, Larry (Sandra) Yartz of Arcadia, David (Cynthia) Yartz of Arma, Ronald (LeeAnn) Yartz of Overland Park, Kan., Kenneth (Janice) Yartz of Newton, Kan., Debra (Thomas) Amershek of Arma, and Susan (Tim) Tewell of Arma; 11 grandchildren, Greg (Lee) Yartz, Kyle (Stacy) Yartz, Jeffrey Yartz, Jason Yartz, Kelly Beihl, Jill (Tony) Allen, Lindsay (Timmy) O’Donnell, Megan Yartz, Steve (Krista) Amershek, Julie (Paden) Shaffer, and Nathan Yartz; 17 great grandchildren, Victoria Yartz, Riley Beihl, Carson Beihl, Grayson Beihl, Quincy Beihl, Kennedy Allen, Arik Allen, Makenzie Yartz, Aaron Yartz, Taylor Yartz, Isabella Yartz, Hayden Yartz, Brayden Amershek, Kaden Shaffer, Alexander Yartz, William Yartz, and Gabriella Yartz; a sister-in-law, Josephine Borello of Pittsburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Edna Crites, Helen Swigart and Nadine Kuhel; brother-in-laws, Floyd Crites, Bob Swigart, Joe Kuhel, Mario Borello, and Maurice Borello; and sister-in-law Naomi Borello.
    Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2013, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Arma with Father Roger Lumbre as the celebrant. Burial will be at the Pittsburg Garden of Memories Cemetery. Rosary will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Bedene Funeral Home at Arma, werhe the family will receive friends until 7 p.m. following the rosary. The family suggests memorials to the St. Ann’s Altar Society. Donations may be sent to or left at the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, Box 621, Arma, KS 667112.
