Joseph L. Fanska, 63, of Pittsburg died at 8:28 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2009 at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center at Pittsburg, Kansas.

Joseph L. Fanska, 63, of Pittsburg died at 8:28 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2009 at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center at Pittsburg, Kansas.
Mr. Fanska was born May 23, 1946 at Pittsburg, Kansas the son of Carl O. and Vita Joan DeStafano Fanska. Joe was a musician who worked many years as an organist for Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Pittsburg. Joe was raised in Pittsburg and graduated from Pittsburg High School. He also attended Pittsburg State University and had degrees in music and sociology. Joe was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.  Joe worked as a custodian for St. Mary’s School and was also an organist for Sacred Heart Catholic Church Choir. Survivors include a sister, Mary Munger and her husband John of Pittsburg, a niece, Jennie Harrison of New York, aunts, Edie Scavuzzo and her husband Carl of Kansas City, Missouri, Jennie DeStafano and Margaret Castagna, and Mary DeStefano, all of Kansas City, Missouri, and uncle, Sam Fanska of Wichita. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Carl Michael Fanska.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2009 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church at Pittsburg with Father Thomas Stroot as the celebrant. Burial will be at the Crocker Cemetery south of Pittsburg. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Bedene Funeral Home at Arma. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Bedene Chapel at Arma. The family suggests memorials to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Donations may be sent to or left at the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, Box 621, Arma, Kansas 66712.
