Northeast, fresh off what head coach Phil Hobbs called a good week of practice and featuring the return of senior wide receiver Nick Younge to the offensive side of the ball after grappling with injuries this season, opened Three Rivers League and Class 2-1A, District 4 play Friday night with a 39-6 win over the Jayhawk-Linn Jayhawks. “1st District Win! 1st League Win! 39-6! Viking Pride!” Hobbs said on Twitter. Northeast led 6-0 at half and turned on the jets after halftime for 33 points. The Viking defense, roughed up for 81 points in back-to-back home losses to Eureka and Galena (Eureka 38, Galena 43), allowed a season-low six points Friday night. Northeast (2-3, 1-0 TRL, 1-0 District 4) averages 41.5 points during their two victories and scored 14 points in each of their losses. The Vikings play a nonconference, nondistrict game next week against Bluestem in Leon.
