Pittsburg volleyball made it a clean sweep over the weekend, winning five different matches to come away as the champions Saturday at the Iola Invitational.
“The girls have showed improvement each week and this week, we tried a few new things,” PHS head coach Megan Mantooth said in an e-mail. “We are still pushing for better passes at all times but did great overall, and our serving percentages went up.”
Pittsburg started off their tournament with wins over Burlington, Prairie View and Iola in straight sets before heading into bracket play.
During elimination play, the Purple Dragons advanced to the championship game after beating Labette County in three sets.
In their final match of the day, PHS faced Burlington in a rematch for all the marbles.
Pittsburg came away with the win in the same fashion as they had most of their matches on the day, winning in two sets to end their tournament on a high note.
Purple Dragon volleyball is action Saturday, Sept. 19 when they host the Pittsburg Tournament.
