LYNDON — The St. Mary’s Colgan track and field teams are sending athletes from 14 separate events to the state meet at Cessna Stadium next weekend.
The Colgan girls qualified for four events in the Kansas Class 2A Regional meet, finishing in fourth place as a team. The SMC boys’ team took runner-up, with 10 finishes high enough to earn a state bid.
Cathy Farmer took first place in the girls’ 400-meter run with a time of 1 minute, 1.90 seconds to qualify for the state meet.
The Panther girls had three different relay teams move on to state.
The girls’ 4x400 team made up of Farmer, Haydn Dawson, Marci VanBecelaere and Madison Thomas took second place with a time of 4:21.04, while the same team took third in the 4x100 with a time of 53.09.
SMC’s 4x800 team made up of Emily Paterni, MaKenzie Venneman, Farmer and VanBecelaere took fourth in the event with a time of 10:23.46.
On the boys’ side, Garrett Normand took first place in the javelin with a throw of 164 feet, 5 inches to qualify for state.
Josh Hayes placed first in the 200 with a time of 23.78. He qualified for state in the 100 as well, crossing the line in 11.70 for a third-place finish.
SMC’s Max Wilson finished in second place in the 400, earning a state bid with a time of 53.03.
Billy Dickey finished in fourth place in the same event with a time of 53.08 to qualify for state.
Taking third place in the 300-meter hurdles was Michael Marietta, who finished in a time of 4.68.
Connor Smith finished in fourth place in the 110-meter hurdles to qualify for state. He crossed the finish time in a time of 16.66.
The SMC 4x400 relay team of Corey Hillis, Hayes, Dickey and Wilson took first place with a time of 3:31.91, with the same team taking first in the 4x100 with a mark of 44.89.
Joe Battitori, Alex Brown, Dickey and Hollis led the Panthers’ 4x800 team to a state-qualifying mark of 8:44.69 to take third place.
