PITTSBURG — The Morning Sun is welcoming a new reporter. Chance Hoener will be covering the county desk and reporting and writing stories about Frontenac, Girard, Arma and the other cities surrounding Pittsburg.

“We’re pleased to have Chance join us,” Managing Editor Patrick Richardson said. “We were impressed with his work as a student journalist and are confident he’ll continue to live up to the standards he has set in his work with us.”

Hoener was born in Fort Scott and attended Uniontown High School. He spent the last four years at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism. His main concentration at Drake was magazine and feature writing, but he’ll be in a more fast-paced setting here in the newsroom.

“I’m really excited for the opportunity to write every day and learn about what it takes to be a working journalist,” Hoener said.

Hoener grew up north of Hepler where his father manages a ranch, and his mother works as a school counselor at West Bourbon Elementary in Uniontown.

“I grew up in Bourbon County, but I’m familiar with the communities of Girard, Arma and Frontenac,” Hoener said. “I’m excited to to learn more about the cities in Crawford county and report on their news.”

When he is not in the newsroom, Hoener enjoys playing guitar, roping with his friends and anything that involves the outdoors.
