PITTSBURG — This Saturday residents will be able to shop till they drop while helping the Southeast Kansas Humane Society.

The Humane Society’s resale store, The Doggie Bag will be opening it’s storerooms for a back lot rummage sale.

Business and Promotions Manager, Jasmine Kyle, said the sale will have many items shoppers have yet to see.

“We are blessed with support from the community through donations, and have storerooms full them,” said Kyle “We decided to do a big sale to clean out and try to help get some needed funds for the spring.”

According to Kyle spring is a busy time at the shelter, and results in big expenses.

“We have 25 kittens right now, and newborn puppies,” Kyle said. “Spring brings babies, and they need formula, which is very expensive.”

Residents can help not just by visiting the sale, but also through volunteering at the store or shelter.

“There is a misconception that we only have grunge work for volunteers, but that’s simply not true.” said Kyle “Volunteers can come help socialize our animals, or just take a dog for a walk, which means the world to that animal.”

Kyle further explained that volunteers help their staff by freeing them up for other projects like this rummage sale.

Visual Display Coordinator, Lastacia Ross thinks the sale will be popular as already low prices will be further slashed.

“While we always have plenty of bargains and run sales, the rummage sale will be the perfect opportunity to offer merchandise at even lower prices.” Ross said.

The rummage sale will take place behind the Broadway store from 10 to 1. Shoppers can expect a variety of items, a large amount of holiday decor, and clothes priced under $1.
