PITTSBURG — A preliminary autopsy on the body of a man found near the intersection of 4th Street and the US Highway 69 bypass early Saturday has determined there were no signs of any injury which would indicate foul play, according to a release from the Pittsburg Police Department

Clifford L. Johnson, 38, of Pittsburg, was found lying face down in the east ditch approximately a quarter-mile south of the intersection about 8:04 a.m. Saturday.

According to Monday’s release, the preliminary autopsy indicates cold weather and wet conditions may have been a critical factor in his death. Johnson’s home is located not far from where his body was found.

The body has been sent to Topeka for autopsy and final results are not expected for approximately two months.

Pittsburg Police Major Brent Narges declined to speculate as to why Johnson was on foot despite the extreme cold.

The investigation into the death is ongoing and, according to the release, more information will be released as it becomes available.

Anyone with information about this death is asked to call the PPD at 620-231-1700 or at the tip line 620-231-8477.
