PITTSBURG — Prom season is coming quickly, and with it all the expense and challenges of finding the perfect dress, hair accessories, jewelry, makeup and paying for it all.
An event this weekend gives prom shoppers the opportunity to get ahead of the game a bit, with the Pittsburg Parks and Recreation Pageant and Prom Resale Event from 1-5 p.m. Saturday at Lincoln Center in Pittsburg.
“This is an all-call to any parents or high school girls who are coming up on proms, homecomings and semi-formals,” said Sara Vacca, recreation superintendent for Pittsburg Parks and Recreation. “It’s for the parents who are going to be spending their money, to let their daughters try on dresses.”
Those selling dresses are able to rent space for $20 for an 8-foot hanging rack and table where they can display the dresses, and some spaces may still be available.
Product vendors also will have other related merchandise, with ideas for nails, makeup, hair accessories and more.
The event is free for those shopping or browsing, and changing rooms will be available for shoppers to try on dresses, many of which are discounted significantly but only have been worn on one occasion.
“It gives them an opportunity to come in and check out the options,” said Sara Vacca, recreation superintendent for Pittsburg Parks and Recreation. “These are name-brand dresses.”
Vacca said the sale is not limited to those selling prom formals, but also can include semi-formals, wedding or pageant attire. However, most of those who have registered to sell dresses will be bringing prom attire.
