PPRD Pageant & Prom event

Pittsburg Parks & Recreation department will be hosting a Pageant & Prom Resale event on Saturday, Jan. 16 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Lincoln Center, 710 W. 9th. This event will include pageant, prom, and formal wear for both men and women. This event is free for buyers to attend. Spaces are now available for those interested in selling their formal wear dresses and tuxes along with other formal wear accessories. PPRD will provide and 8 foot rack, table and facility for sellers for $20. Registration is required for sellers; no onsite/day of registration. SEK Recycling Center

The center will host a E-Waste event from 9 a.m. ato 5 p.m. These types of electronics include: Computers, Stereos, Flat-screen TVs, Monitors, Microwaves, and household appliances. There is a $5 fee for disposal of tube-style TVs and monitors.

 

Legion Auxiliary

The VFW Ladies Auxiliary will have their regular meeting on the second Saturday of every month at 9:30 a.m. at the post home. President Effie Toney will preside over the meeting.

 

Pittsburg American Legion

The American Legion, 2815 N. Joplin, hosts a noon feed for veterans on the third Saturday of every month. Additinally, an accreditated veterans service officer with the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 317 and sponsored by American Legion Post 64 Pittsburg will be present beginning at 8:30 a.m. Please call 620-231-2240 to make an appointment.

 

Veterans benefits

The Veterans Service Officer will be available every third Saturday of each month begining at 9am. All veterans needing assistance with VA benefits are welcome. Call the American Legion at 231-2240 to make an appointment.

Knights of Columbus

The Knights of Columbus free throw contest will be 2 p.m at McCullough Gym. The contest is open to al boy san dgirls up to 14 years of age. Medals will be givne to first place winners in all age groups. For more information call 620-249-8204 or 620-682-4604.

The knights will be hosting their annual chili feed for Crawford County law enforcement and firefighters 6:30 p.m. at knight’s hall.

 

Pittsburg Public Library

The library will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Regular hours will resume at 9:00am on Tuesday.

 

"Daughters of the American Revolution”

The Oceanus Hopkins Chapter NSDAR will have a meeting at the home of Mrs. Dick Casey. The meeting will begin at 5:30pm which will include a light supper and a program by Jana Jones

 

Co-Dependents Anonymous

Co-Dependents Anonymous is a 12 step fellowhip of men and women whose common purpose is recover from coddependence and the develpment and maintenance of healthy relationships. CoDA meets at noon at Grubbs Hall room 209.. For further information call 620-231-0499.

TOPS 0599 (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meets every Monday at St. Mary’s Grade School located at 301 E. 9th. Private weigh-ins are from 5:30 to 6:20 p.m. Meetings start at 6:30 p.m. and are designed to provide motivation and support to help members reach their weight loss goals. Visitors are always welcome. TOPS 0975

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) 0975, Girard, meets every Monday at 406 W. Antelope St. in Girard, KS. Private weigh-in will begin at 5 p.m. and end at 5:45 p.m. Meetings begin at 6 p.m. A support and motivational program is presented each week to encourage members to reach and maintain weight loss goals. Yoga Class

A yoga class will be conducted every Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the Homer Cole Community Center located at 3003 N. Joplin St with a licensed yoga teacher. The class will offer flow style yoga, which is appropriate for all levels, including beginners. Bring your beautiful self, dressed in comfortable clothes, water and a yoga mat (a few extras will be on hand). The price is donation based, but $7 is recommended.

 

NAMI Southeast Kansas

The NAMI family support group and a NAMI connections group meet on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Pittsburg Presbyterian Church, 520 N. Pine.

 

American Legion Post 64

Pittsburg American Legion Post #64 will hold their meeting every third Monday of each month at 7pm. All members are encouraged to attend.

 

Little Balkans Quilt Guild

The Little Balkans Quilt Guild will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, December 21st, at the Presbyterian Church of Pittsburg, at the corner of 6th and Pine Streets. Bring a dish to share at a pot luck dinner at 6 p.m., followed by the meeting at 7 p.m., with a program on color, and a giftwrapped handmade ornament exchange. Visitors and new members are welcome. Local Fire and Law enforcement

Frist responders are joining with American Red Cross for the annual Pittsburg Battle of the Badges blood drive. Donors can go to Countryside Christian Church, 1901 E. 4th, from 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

 

Pittsburg Public Library

The library will have an introduction to Facebook from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Registration is welcome, but not required.

 

Pittsburg Public Library

Monthly book discussion over “Secrets of a Charmed Life” by Susan Meissner. Participants are not required to read the book prior to the meeting but it is recommended. For more information call the library’s adult services department at 230-5560.

 

Arma American Legion

Legion Post #182 will have bingo. The event is open to the public. Doors open at 5 p.m. and games begin at 6:30 p.m. Blackout will pay $375 for 53 numbers.

 

PATH

The group will meet at the YMCA for “Family Day at the YMCA” from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The program Healthy Eating and Diabetic Prevention will be presented by Debra Anthony and Rebecca Adamson from the Crawford County Health Department at 10:30 a.m. There will be free screenings, lab work, prizes, treats and much more. All area seniors are free to attend. There is no registrations for this event.
