GIRARD — Crawford County residents interested in seeking county-wide public office in the November general election have until June 1 to file.

Crawford County Clerk Donald Pyle said county political party primaries will be held on Aug. 2.

"No one's filed yet," he said late Friday afternoon.

Among the county offices up for voter consideration in the November general election are the offices of sheriff, county attorney, county treasurer, county clerk, register of deeds and the District 2 County Commissioner's job, Pyle said.

The filing deadline is noon, June 1, he said.

Candidates filing as either Democrats or Republicans must run in the August primary, Pyle said. Those running as independent candidates or with the Libertarian Party must file petitions by Aug. 1.

While candidates seeking county level officials file at the Crawford County Courthouse, people seeking state level offices such as state representative or state senate must file with the Kansas Secretary of State's office.

According to the Kansas Secretary of State's office, the only person to file from Southeast Kansas as of Friday afternoon was State Sen. Caryn Tyson, (R-Parker), who is seeking re-election to the District 12 Senate seat.

So far District 13 State Sen. Jake LaTurner, District 2 State Rep. Adam Lusker, District 3 State Rep. Chuck Smith nor District 7 State Rep. Rich Proehl have not filed for reelection, according to information provided late Friday afternoon by the state office. Pyle said he knew Lusker planned to seek reelection.

Kansas voters will not be seeing names of party presidential nominees on the August primary ballot as the state as Kansas hosts caucuses rather than primaries.

Incumbent U.S. Senator Jerry Moran, (R-Kansas), has already filed for reelection and has not yet drawn an opponent, officials said.

Pyle said he can provide prospects interested in running for office the information they need to comply with filing requirements.
