Dream about summer on the lake at the 10th Annual Albers Marine Fishing and Hunting Show, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Meadowbrook Mall in Pittsburg. Pittsburg’s trail system has expanded, and with forecasts predicting temperatures around 50 degrees on Sunday it’s a great time to check it out with a hike, bike ride or jog. Newer sections run from Schlanger Park along Fourth Street to Trail Head Park at 11th and Broadway, as well as along Rouse St. south of Jefferson St.
Do your kids love building? First- through sixth-grade students have the opportunity to put their skills to the test at Block Kids, a free event open to the first 100 students who register. Participants are given one hour to build a construction industry-related project using building blocks, and prizes will be awarded. The event runs from noon to 3 p.m. and registration begins at noon at the Kansas Technology Center Rotunda on Pittsburg State University’s campus.
Those with tickets already purchased will be able to enjoy a night of dining and dancing on behalf of Via Christi Hospital’s Mt. Carmel Foundation. The 32nd Annual Gala’s theme is Outrageously Alice and will feature entertainment by “The Source,” a live auction, silent auction and more. Funds raised help the hospital offer cutting-edge technology, equipment and programs for patients around Southeast Kansas.
