GIRARD — The Crawford County Commission Friday approved a $40,000 grant agreement for the Crawford County Health Department.
The grant is part of the Eat Well program, and was given by the Kansas Health Foundation.
The money will be used for a worksite wellness program and promoting vending machines with healthier food choices as well as farmer’s market vouchers to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables.
Additionally, the commission discussed repairs to the courthouse boiler system.
The system was apparently incorrectly installed and is leaking water to the tune of 80 gallons a day.
The commission directed County Counselor Jim Emerson to contact the company which installed the system with an eye toward recouping losses.
The repairs may cost in excess of $100,000.
“I think someone is responsible to us for this,” Commission Chairman Tom Moody said.
The commission also approved several contracts for the Crawford County Commission.
The commission will next meet 10 a.m. Tuesday in the commission chambers in the Crawford County Courthouse in Girard.
