Be Kind to Animals Week
The community has a couple opportunities Friday to support the Southeast Kansas Humane Society during Be Kind to Animals Week. Pittsburg’s north Walmart will host a “Pack a Pallet” pet food drive from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, and the humane society will conduct a drive to raise awareness about fostering pets from 7 p.m. to close Friday at TJ Lelands.
MIRZA Shrine Parade
The MIRZA Shrine’s Spring Ceremonial Parade will feature MG cars, 3-wheeler motorcycles, antique cars and trucks, fire trucks, clowns and bands beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday along Broadway from Seventh to Fifth Street.
MRB Children’s Show
“Who Is Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf,” the Midwest Regional Ballet children’s spring production, will be performed at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Auditorium. Tickets are $8 for those over 13 years old, $5 for children ages 5-13 and free for children under 5 years old. Proceeds benefit Hope House in Joplin.
Walk To End Alzheimers
A fundraising walk for the Alzheimer’s Association will take place Saturday at Pittsburg’s Immigrant Park. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m. Participants can register online at alzwalksek.org.
High school graduations continue this weekend for three area school districts.
Frontenac High School seniors will graduate at 1 p.m. Sunday, Girard High School seniors will graduate at 3 p.m. Sunday and Northeast High School seniors will graduate at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
